ABOUT MOWGLI
In the depths of the Indian jungle once lived Father Wolf and Mother Wolf. One night, a man cub wandered up to them. A crippled tiger, Shere Khan, wanted to eat him and demanded that they hand him over. But Mother Wolf chased the cruel beast away. Then she said to the boy: "I'll keep you. I will call you Mowgli, and just as Shere Khan hunted you, so you will hunt Shere Khan one day."
In time, Mowgli was brought before the leader of the pack, Akela. He asked who would put in a good word for the man cub. But no wolf came forward. But then Baloo the old bear, the teacher of the wolf cubs, spoke up: "The man cub will not harm anyone, let him run with the pack. I will teach him myself." But this was not enough for Akela. Not until black panther Bagheera said: "If you will accept the man cub as your own, I will give you this fat bull I killed." And so the wolves took Mowgli in, and Mowgli found two loyal friends. Mowgli grew and grew and learned from the animals how to live in the jungle: he knew every rustle of grass, every breath of air, every scratch of a bat's claws. Bagheera taught him how to climb trees, and Baloo showed him which roots were edible. Mowgli got to know all the inhabitants of the forest, including Kaa, the mighty python, who could cast such a spell with his gaze that prey would walk into his mouth on its‘ own volition.
But Shere Khan still wanted to get Mowgli in his paws. He set the young wolves against him, telling them that a man had no place in a pack. So Mowgli, with a heavy heart, had to leave, but he promised to come back with Shere Khan's skin. He headed among his compatriots, the humans.
The villagers feared him at first, but then accepted him among them. Mowgli dutifully studied human manners and customs. In time, he became a cow herder. One day, he was visited by his brother wolf: "Mowgli, Shere Khan wants to get you today at the village gate!" Mowgli learned that the tiger is resting in a nearby ravine. Mowgli quickly drove his bulls to the top of it and down the slope, right at Shere Khan. The tiger had nowhere to run and was trampled to death by the herd. Mowgli skinned the beast and headed back into the jungle with its‘ skin. He presented it to the pack and cried out: "Look here, wolves. I kept my word, didn't I?" They all howled in agreement. But Mowgli didn't stay with them. He went hunting alone, and after a time he grew up, married, and lived happily ever after.

VERONIKA ZACHAROVA, AUTHOR OF THE ILLUSTRATION
VERONIKA ABOUT HERSELF
"I have already created two designs for Silky Gang – Sleeping Beauty and Jaromil. When Martina came to me with the Mowgli motif, I was instantly sold. The first image that popped into my head for the Jungle Book motif was Mowgli's eyes peering out of the impenetrable jungle. After a while, a simple concept came into the motif - a noose of danger in the form of the snake Kaa squeezing around the perimeter, while Mowgli is guarded in the middle by the vigilant panther Bagheera and the bear Baloo. Martina and I agreed on cleanliness and graphicness, which also allowed for easy transitions from one colour palette to another. The result was a scarf motif that depicts the jungle by day and by night. "
MARTINA ABOUT VERONIKA
"Veronika is another artist whose talent I admire and I would like to show the full scale and diversity of it. With Mowgli I wanted to start from the classic geometric vector illustration. The scarf motif lacks fine details, on the contrary, just like in the jungle, large leaves and flowers overlap each other, gradually darken and we dive into the depths of the jungle that hides the main protagonists of our story. I also worked for a long time on the final colour palette. The whole concept is based on presenting the illustration in two colour variations. Green symbolizes the colorfulness of the jungle in daylight. The blue shades, which go from lighter to darker blue, show the transformation of the jungle in the night light. The patterns thus work on their own, but can also be worn together."
